Professor Christopher Buttler is an Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant in Neurology at the University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, UK. He studied medicine at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and then at the University of Edinburgh and obtained his primary medical qualifications in 1997, and then passed the Membership of Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 2001. He conducted his PhD on the syndrome of transient epileptic amnesia under the supervision of Professor Adam Zeman in 2006. He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Memory and Aging Center, University of California at San Francisco and moved to Oxford in 2009. He was awarded a Clinician Scientist fellowship from the Medical Research Council in 2013.
His research focusses on understanding the memory deficits experienced by patients with damage to the medial temporal lobes of the brain due to limbic encephalitis, epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease. He has conducted many research trials as principle investigator and has been awarded many research grants.
He is a brilliant clinician in neurology and he fascinates his trainees with his clinical sense and art of diagnosis. This is his presence at Anuradhapura Clinical Society – Annual Scientific Sessions 2018 as the guest of honour.
